Philippians 2:14-15
“Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among who you shine as lights in the world,”
One problem I’ve been having at work is that I am sometimes scheduled to work with a lady who doesn’t get along with anyone (except one lady whom she highly and clearly favors). Everyone around me was complaining about her, and it was easy for me to automatically join in and share the things that she’s done and said to me. When someone else that she only still works there because nobody tells the manager about her, I told them an example of something that I told the manager. Then I brought up that I found it interesting that she was working at a Christian camp despite never showing the fruits of the Spirit and being a terrible example to the guests of what a Christian should be like.
I was listening to a sermon earlier today though that brought up this verse. It made me realize that I was simply bringing up to people a complaint that I had about her and that that was impure of me to do. It was not a good example of me to just throw out a complaint about someone.
We have very different personalities, but neither of us are perfect examples. That applies to everyone who is reading this. Whenever you choose to view someone as a bad example of what a Christian should be like, keep in mind that you aren’t the perfect example either. If you want peace in any scenario, make sure that you’re trying to see things from God’s point of view.
This is such a wonderful example of the Holy Spirit's conviction working within us. Thank you for sharing this Ariana! I know I have had problems in the past with appealing to co-workers, family members, and others of the like about complaints harbored toward another.
It reminds me of Jesus teaching, get the log out of your own eye before taking the twig out of your friends eye. But also, we shouldn't shy away from judging others who do share our faith, but doing so out of love for them, to turn them towards repentance and back to producing the fruit of the Spirit.
